session that addressed fundamental leadership skills. Throughout this afternoon session, pupils participated in both volleyball and basketball sessions, led by experienced coaches who clearly demonstrated a high standard of coaching skills.

 

Overall, this successful induction has been a great start to the programme. Pupils will now go on to liaise closely with their mentors and volunteer coordinators to plan their delivery of sport at a local level and build up their hours of voluntary service.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Step into Sport Leadership and Volunteer Programme

 
 

The Step into Sport Leadership and Volunteering Programme, led by the School Sports Partnership has been designed to establish opportunities for volunteering in sport at a local level. Selected Year 12 pupils from Kingsbury High School, Alperton Community School, Preston Manor High School and Wembley High Technology College were nominated to participate in this programme for their passion in PE and Sport, their potential as a committed volunteer, their ability to be a good role model and as a representative for their school and the wider community. As part of programme, the selected Year 12 students participated in an induction to this programme on Monday 9th February 2009.

 

Throughout the morning session, pupils participated in team building activities and became aware of the thought processes behind being a leader and volunteer. Whilst acknowledging the skills and qualities needed to be a leader and volunteer, pupils were also introduced to the Step into the Step into Sport Volunteer Passport. This dedicated website allowed pupils to quickly register and activate their account where they can log all their volunteering hours, check their progress and see up and coming events. The site also allows Volunteer Coordinators (SSCo’s and members of the PE department) to instantly validate volunteer's work and keep in touch with local schools.
